Ludwig van Beethoven , regarded as one of the greatest composers who ever lived, was born in Bonn, Germany, in December 1770. The world-famous composer left dozens of precious works throughout his life and continued to be mentioned even after centuries.

1) Beethoven, who was born on December 17, 1770, died on March 26, 1827.

Born in Bonn, Germany, the famous composer had an interest in music from a very young age. This talent was discovered by his father, who was the first music teacher.


2) Beethoven has 6 siblings who were born. However, only 3 of these 7 siblings survived.

Only 3 of the 7 children who were born from the marriage of his father Hohann van Beethoven and his mother Maria Magdalena Keverich in Bonn survived. Beethoven is the eldest of these brothers.


3) He composed 9 symphonies, 32 piano sonatas, 5 piano concertos, and 16 string quartets throughout his life. In addition to these, there is only one opera he wrote: “Fidelio”.

He settled in Vienna at the age of 21 and became famous as a virtuoso pianist. The famous composer, who lived in Vienna until his death, started to have hearing problems towards the end of his twenties.


4) Before settling in Vienna, on his first visit at the age of 17, Ludwig van Beethoven gave a concert for Mozart.

5) Beethoven’s early-onset hearing problems eventually progressed to deafness towards the end of his life.

He quit conducting and giving public concerts at the age of 41, when his hearing problems made him feel too much. But he continued to compose. As a matter of fact, he composed his timeless works in the last 15 years of his life.


6) Besides his hearing problems, Beethoven was always ill throughout his life.

Beethoven, who lived in the times when there was no modern medicine, tried to cope with many diseases such as colitis, rheumatism, typhus, rheumatic fever, skin problems, abscesses, infections, jaundice, chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis.

In addition to all these, it is known that his deafness, which affects almost half of his life, is caused by a childhood disease.


7) Beethoven, who wrote dozens of unique works in his life, died at the age of 56 due to cirrhosis.

Beethoven, who became a world-renowned figure, died in 1827 due to cirrhosis. It is estimated that approximately thirty thousand people attended his funeral.
