It is not known how many characters come to mind when you think of Star Wars characters, but the number of characters in all Star Wars movies shot until 2016 is exactly 21,647! Probably at least a thousand more characters have been added since the last movies.
For over forty years, some Star Wars characters have been loved by people, while some Star Wars characters have been hated. We grew up with them, we cried at the deaths of some, laughed at their jokes, idolized many of them, despised some, and now we come to the characters who make us feel these feelings. The first lines that come to mind when Han Solo is mentioned are: “I love you” and “I know”. Solo is the main character in the original trilogy and a minor character in the sequel trilogy in the Star Wars universe. Han Solo might be the most attractive of all Star Wars characters, and of course, Harrison Ford, who brought him to life. He might not have been the chosen one, but he was the person we all wanted to be. Han Solo with style existed in the gray area of good and evil, proving that we can all do the right thing eventually when the choice is made.


2) Yoda (Frank Oz) – Jedi Master

When the name of Yoda, one of the most well-known Star Wars characters, comes to mind, these lines come to mind: “Do or don’t. No trials here.” Yoda is one of the main protagonists of the second and third films of the original trilogy, as well as the prequel trilogy. Like many good mentors, Yoda guided his students by giving them important life lessons. The tiny Jedi master remains one of the most remarkable non-human characters ever created.

Lucas and his team did a great job making sure Yoda was seen in blood rather than a computer creation, and as real as Luke. He created a warm father-son relationship that was so important between the two characters. Yoda trained Luke and later assisted him in Luke’s struggle.

One of the first names that come to mind when it comes to Star Wars characters is Dart Vader. The most iconic villain of all time: his looks are creepy, his voice is chilling, his words are evil. But it was his actions that made Darth a part of our childhood nightmares. So why is this bad guy loved? Because movies are full of space pilots, princesses, blonde heroes, robot sidekicks, and wise old wizards, but there’s only one Darth Vader. Darth Vader is animated and voiced by Hayden Christensen, David Prowse, Bob Anderson and Spencer Wilding.

Vader, who is actually Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, surrenders himself to the darkness. He rarely loses his temper and is very controlled. However, he has an extremely low tolerance for failure and any form of betrayal. Anakin sacrifices his life to save his son. Just before he dies, Anakin reconciles with his son Luke and thanks him for never giving up on saving him. He then dies peacefully.


4) Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) – The Chosen One

Anakin Skywalker is the protagonist of the prequel trilogy of the Star Wars universe and one of the main characters of the 2008 computer-animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Young Anakin is played by Jake Lloyd, while adult Anakin is Hayden Christensen; Sebastian Shaw plays the old Anakin. Anakin is the son of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa’s father, Padmé Amidala’s husband, and Ben Solo’s grandfather, Shmi Skywalker.

He is a legendary Force user who served the Galactic Republic as a Jedi Knight and later, after falling to the dark side, serves the Galactic Empire as a Sith Lord named Darth Vader. He distrusts people who try to criticize him and his actions, believing that they are trying to weaken him, put him in his shoes, or make him doubt his own abilities.

She first appears as the young Queen of the planet Naboo in the 1999 feature film The Phantom Menace. She is the wife of Padme Anakin Skywalker and the mother of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. Padmé is loved for her kind and selfless nature.

Luke Skywalker is the most prominent of all Star Wars characters. He is the protagonist of the original trilogy and one of the secondary protagonists in the sequel trilogy. He is Ben Solo’s uncle. Finding himself an apprentice to Jedi masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, Luke soon becomes a key figure in the Rebel Alliance’s struggle against the Galactic Empire. Luke is resourceful, selfless, and brave, but like his father, Anakin Skywalker, he can be impulsive.

Luke becomes calmer, more discreet and patient after an incident with Darth Vader. As a Jedi, Luke is extremely intelligent and wise. He then tries to pass on his Jedi knowledge to the next generation of students. However, after Luke’s nephew Ben Solo turns to the dark side and the Jedi Temple is destroyed, Luke grows resentful and feels guilty. Realizing the flaws in the Jedi teachings, he exiles himself.


7) Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) – Padme and Anakin’s Daughter

Luke and Han may be the main protagonists of the original trilogy, but the heart of the trilogy is Leia Skywalker Organa Solo. In the prequel films, her biological mother is Padmé Amidala, and her stepfather is Bail Organa, the head of the Alderaan Royal family.

As an adult, Leia is an extremely wise, calm, prudent and responsible tactician. Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Jedi Master and one of the main characters of the Star Wars universe. Kenobi is portrayed by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy, but is played by Ewan McGregor in the prequel trilogy. In Obi-Wan’s youth, he is a very rebellious yet emotional character.

In Obi-Wan’s later years, he is brave, humble, soft-spoken, loyal, honorable, discreet, disciplined, and somewhat stubborn. As senator of Naboo, he develops two identities to further his political career: Sidious and Palpatine. He is eventually elected Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. At first, Palpatine appears to be a friendly politician and well-meaning person. This is a tactic used to deceive those in the Galactic Senate.

Besides his narcissism and arrogance, he is extremely intelligent, patient, cunning and manipulative. After Palpatine successfully takes control of the Galactic Republic and transforms it into the Galactic Empire, he abandons his democratic personality and becomes an openly tyrannical ruler. Palpatine is the only Sith Master/Dark Lord of the Sith in galactic history who has achieved his goal of destroying the Jedi Order and re-establishing the Sith Empire in the galaxy.


10) Darth Maul (Ray Park) – Sheev Palpatine’s Apprentice

Maul is Dath Sidious’ secret apprentice. Darth Maul manipulates galactic events behind the scenes. Wielding a double-bladed lightsaber and trained as a master of lightsaber combat, Maul serves as a personal assassin for Palpatine, who is sent to eliminate the film’s protagonists Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. He manages to kill Qui-Gon but is later split in two by Obi-Wan.

Maul’s life and motivations are based on revenge. Maul snarls like a wild beast and acts animalistic at times. These behaviors sometimes upset his opponents psychologically. Maul is often overconfident, a trait that causes him to underestimate his opponents. While the Jedi thought he was dead, it turns out that Maul survived the Clone Wars series due to his hatred for Kenobi.


11) Rey (Daisy Ridley)

Rey (who later became Rey Skywalker) is the protagonist of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Rey is a loner who joins the war between the Resistance and the First Order. He unlocks his potential as a Force user on his quest to find Luke Skywalker, the only Jedi Master to join the Resistance to save the galaxy.

Rey is lonely because of her family abandonment, but she hopes for them to come back. Rey is kind, loving and optimistic. He is also a very shy person, prone to working alone and not sharing his personal matters with others.


12) Darth Tyranus / Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) – Leader of the Separatists

Count Dooku, also known as Darth Tyranus, is one of the most important enemies of the Star Wars franchise. Dooku, once a Jedi Knight and former apprentice of Jedi Master Yoda and Master of Qui-Gon Jinn, fell to the Dark Side, becoming Darth Sidious’ second apprentice and, following Qui-Gon’s death, Head of State of the Confederation of Independent Systems.

Dooku is a very patient, calm, relaxed, confident shrew. Dooku is also a successful philosopher, orator, politician and warrior. Senator Bail Organa, governor-general and senator of Alderaan, is also Leia’s stepfather and Breha Organa’s husband. Unlike many selfish and corrupt delegates, Bail takes his duties as governor and senator of Alderaan very seriously. He spends most of his free time working on both legislative and domestic issues.

Despite being a clever man and an innovative strategist, Bail tends to act on faith rather than play it safe. He is not afraid to take risks if the benefits justify the costs, and he quickly learns from his mistakes. He is very loyal to the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order.

As a Jedi, Mace is intelligent, wise, and insightful. However, like most Jedi Masters, he is somewhat arrogant, smug, and narrow-minded. Overconfident in his own abilities, he is known to be proud and outspoken, sometimes sarcastic and largely stubborn. He risks his life many times to protect the people of the Republic, as well as his Jedi comrades and even the clone troopers under his command.


15) Jango Fett (Temuera Morrison) – Assassin

Jango Fett is an assassin and mercenary hailed everywhere as the galaxy’s most ruthless and bounty hunter. Originally working alongside Count Dooku, Jango is transported to the world of Kamino, where his DNA is used to manufacture Clone Troopers. During the Battle of Geonosis, Jango ends up at the hands of Mace Windu. Jango’s son, Boba, continues his legacy as the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter, replacing his father.

With the reputation of being the galaxy’s deadliest bounty hunter, Jango Fett was a ruthless, cold, determined, cunning, immoral, and calculating mercenary. As befits a soldier and a hitman, his loyalty usually stays in the service of those who offer the greatest reward as long as they pay the fee demanded. 16) Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) – Jango Fett’s Son

Boba Fett is a key foe in the Star Wars franchise. Rarely has there been so much attention in the history of cinema for a character who appears so seldom and says so little. It’s hard to figure out exactly what’s going on about this battered, speechless, mysterious man that has attracted so many ‘Star Wars’ fans. During the Galactic Civil War, Boba Fett became one of the most notorious bounty hunters in the galaxy’s outer reaches.

Years later, he is recruited by Darth Vader to find the Millennium Falcon. After Boba completes his mission, he takes Han Solo, the captain of the Falcon, captive. He delivers it to the notorious galactic crime lord Jabba the Hutt on the desert planet. It was believed that Boba was killed during the battle when Luke Skywalker came to rescue Han. However, it is later revealed that he survived.


17) R2 D2 (Kenny Baker) – Astromechanical Robot

R2-D2 is among the Star Wars characters. He is one of the few characters to appear in every Star Wars movie and has also appeared in Rogue One. British actor Kenny Baker played R2-D2 in all three original Star Wars movies. R2-D2 has more personality than other droids, probably because his memory is never erased or reprogrammed.

While not a battle droid, R2-D2 defends itself well. When forced into battle, the R2 unleashes its power by using a wide variety of mechanics as weapons, including blinding opponents, using oil to make them slide, shocking them with a choke stick, attaching them to a cable, and tying them to a cable.

C-3PO is a protocol droid and a main character in the Star Wars universe. Before meeting Luke Skywalker, C-3PO is brought from Tatooine by a young Anakin Skywalker to help his mother. When Anakin returns to Tatooine, he and C-3PO break up, but he returns years later after his mind has been wiped. C-3PO then continues to help Luke Skywalker and his allies and befriends R2-D2.

25) Wedge Antilles (Denis Lawson) – Pilot

Wedge Antilles is the best pilot in the Rebel fleet in the original Star Wars trilogy, Rebel Alliance. While his fellow X-wing, Y-wing, A-wing, B-wing, and snowspeed pilots blow up and fail to take off, Wedge stays calm and barely survives three major battles. Wedge destroys Luke’s Death Star and saves the Rebellion from certain destruction.

Admiral Gial Ackbar is a member of the Amphibian Mon Calamari species. He is the foremost military commander of the Alliance Fleet, leading major combat operations against the Galactic Empire and later integral to the formation of the New Republic. Gial plays a supporting role in the 1983 movie Return of the Jedi and later becomes a leading character in novels, comics, and other media of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Gial is very loyal to his cause. He is also extremely strategic and intelligent.

Raised as a soldier, Finn is inexperienced with the world outside the First Order and knows nothing more than to trust the First Order. K-2SO is a reprogrammed Imperial Enforcer droid that appears in the Star Wars movie Rogue One. Originally built to serve in the armed forces of the Galactic Empire, until at one point it was reprogrammed by Captain Cassian Andor to serve the Rebel Alliance.

Together with a group of rogue Alliance agents, K-2SO embarks on an audacious mission to steal the plans for the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star. As a droid, K-2SO is physically stronger than most other sentient beings, but takes much more damage than other sentient beings.

General Amilyn Holdo is one of the key characters in the 2017 Star Wars: The Last Jedi movie. He serves as Vice Admiral in the Resistance during his conflict with the First Order. He is an eccentric but intelligent member of the Resistance. Holdo has a tendency to speak in riddles and metaphors, and Leia refers to his speech patterns as “Holdo speak”.
Holdo is a slender, tall woman with fair skin and blue eyes. She dyes her hair different colors, is usually barefoot and wears brightly colored clothes.


31) Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) – Pilot and General

Poe Dameron is a character from the Star Wars sequel trilogy and the animated series Star Wars Resistance, set just before the events of The Force Awakens. Poe is an X-wing pilot (later General) of the Resistance and owner of BB-8. After joining the Republic Fleet, he was trained by a pilot named Wedge Antilles.

Poe is extremely brave and daring, he can make anything fly. To the dismay of Leia Organa, she can be arrogant and reckless at times, but she is friendly. Poe’s personality changes after his mistakes during The Last Jedi, as the First Order Resistance army is nearly destroyed due to miscommunication between him and Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo.

33) Plo Koon (Alan Ruscoe, Matt Sloan)

Plo Koon is a Jedi Master among Star Wars characters. Plo is stubborn and difficult in his youth, some events in his later years lead him to be more calm and prudent. As a Jedi, Plo is one of the wisest and most intelligent members of the Jedi Order. Despite this, she is unaware that her constant lies and deception towards Anakin Skywalker and keeping secrets from him is slowly turning him against the Jedi Order.

High-ranking military governor of the Outer Rim regions of the Galactic Empire and commander of the planet-destroying space station known as the Death Star. Tarkin uses the awesome power of the Death Star to destroy the planet Alderan before he reads about his plans to end the Rebel Alliance to restore the Republic.

Tarkin was intelligent and cunning as well as had a strong sense of duty and dignity. He was known for his sharp memory. He never forgot a favor or a kindness and had the ability to remember people from meetings that took place more than a decade ago. He was one of the few people who knew that Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader were the same person, thanks to his powerful sense of perception.


36) Jabba the Hut (Dave Barclay, Toby Philpott, Mike Edmonds) – Gangster

Jabba the Hutt (full name Jabba Desilijic Tiure) is a notorious gangster in the Star Wars universe. He leads a criminal empire on Tatooine, where he both rules and controls most of the illicit goods, piracy and slavery trade. Jabba is extremely arrogant, greedy and, above all, repulsive. Physically, Hutt is a green slug-like alien with a beige spotty face and bulging belly.

General Grievous, who is among the Star Wars characters, is one of the dangerous enemies in the Star Wars universe. During the Clone Wars, Grievous serves as Supreme Commander of the Confederation of Independent Systems’ Droid Army. Throughout the Clone Wars, Grievous killed numerous Jedi and looted their lightsabers, becoming one of the most notorious and feared Jedi hunters in the galaxy. Grievous is cruel, sadistic, calculating and very intelligent.


39) Enfys Nest (Erin Kellyman) – Rebel Alliance Member

Enfys Nest is initially shown as one of the main enemies. He pretends to be a dangerous looter to hide his true targets. He is a brave and noble member of the Rebel Alliance. After clarifying who he is and his intentions, he helps Han Solo defeat Dryden Vos and Tobias Beckett. Later, he offers Han a position in the Rebel alliance. However, Han refuses.


40) Nien Nunb (Richard Bonehill, Mike Quinn) – Arms Merchant

Nien Nunb is the puppet actor introduced in the Star Wars series Return of the Jedi. Nien Nunb is an arms dealer of the Sullustan species who joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. Thirty years later, Nunb becomes a starfighter pilot in the Resistance.
