10 Deep African Proverbs That Will Touch Your Life

Undoubtedly, Africa is a continent that hosts the people with the greatest working discipline in the world. The oppression and colonization on this continent for centuries brings with it feelings that are difficult to express and very different life motivations for these people. So much so that I am of the opinion that these motivations directly affect their lives and that the reflections of the life they live contain very valuable teachings for us. That’s why I’ve compiled a few African proverbs that deeply affected me.
1) “Unless lions write their own stories, we have to listen to hunters’ stories.”
2) “There is no winner in a fight between a lion and an ant.”
3) “Even a little rain can fill the rivers every day.”
4) “When a big tree falls, a goat eats its leaves.”
5) “Smoke does not only affect honeybees; It also affects the honey gatherer.”
6) “If you think you are too small to be noticed, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito.”
7) “Only a fool tests the depth of water with both feet.”
8) “As the water rises, the fish eat the ants, and as the water recedes, the ants eat the fish. No one should rely on their present superiority… because the flow of water decides who eats whom.”
9) “Whatever the color of our face and eyes, the color of our tears is the same.”
10) “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up,
He knows he must run faster than the fastest lion or he will die.
Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up,
It knows it has to run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve.
It doesn’t matter if you are a lion or a gazelle.
Just know that when the sun comes up you have to run.”
