August 6 and August 9, 1945, were a black stain on the hearts of the world, especially Japan. Thousands of people were killed by the atomic bombs said to have been dropped first on Hiroshima and then on Nagasaki. We say “rumored” because there is a widespread view that this was in fact Cold War propaganda. If this view is true, it will surely go down in history as the world’s second biggest lie.

But why tell such a lie?

For those who argue that no atomic bombs were dropped, this story is just a pretext for the Cold War and Japan’s withdrawal. It is alleged that a secret deal was struck with the US because the Japanese people were tired of the war but the government was unwilling to accept defeat. In this way, Japan said, “America can destroy an entire city with a single button, we have an atomic bomb and we are ending the war.” By creating the perception that America has an atomic bomb, Japan sent a message to the whole world to stop fighting with itself.
